Black & Color

The combination of BLACK and other intensive color is used in these series of encaustic & mixed media paintings to make both a strong impression and influence our perception. 【⦿】
In science, black is not a color, it is just the result of the absence or  complete  absorption of visible light. A material is said to be black if light (electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum) interacts with the atoms and molecules, which causes the energy of the light to be converted into other forms of energy, usually heat. ☀
And yet black does function like color. It evokes feelings and symbolizes positive (elegance, sophistication, strength) as well as negative (anger, fear, and sadness) things. Of course, the color-related emotion is highly dependent on your personal preference and past experiences with that color.
According to Feng Shui, traditional practice originating from ancient China, black is associated with the water element and evokes power, mystery, and calm. When it’s used sparingly, black has a grounding effect on your environment.
